The easiest way to get rid of an old hot tub is to have it disconnected from power, drained, and then removed by a junk removal crew that cuts it down or hauls it whole and recycles what it can. Most hot tubs weigh several hundred pounds empty and won't fit through a standard gate in one piece, so DIY removal usually takes extra hands, tools and a trailer. In the Raleigh, Cary and Sanford, NC area, Junk A Haulics handles hot tub removal from start to finish, including any light demolition of the deck or surround.

What do you need to do before a hot tub is removed?
- Turn off the power at the breaker. Many hot tubs are hardwired to a 240-volt disconnect. If yours is hardwired, have a licensed electrician disconnect and cap the wiring before removal day.
- Drain it. Use the drain valve or a submersible pump, and give it a day or two to dry out so it's lighter.
- Clear a path from the tub to the driveway: gates, patio furniture, grills.
- Let us know about the surround. If the tub sits inside a deck or gazebo, that may need to come apart too.
Why is hot tub removal harder than it looks?
Hot tubs are heavy, awkward and rarely sit somewhere easy. Most are acrylic shells on a wood or synthetic frame, sitting in a backyard behind a fence, on a deck, or tucked under a cover. Moving one whole often means a crew, a dolly system and a clear route. When that isn't possible, the crew cuts the tub into sections on site and loads it out. That's light demolition, and it's why we bundle it with haul-away.
What happens to an old hot tub after it's removed?
We take an eco-friendly approach to junk removal. Metal parts like pumps, heaters and frames get separated for scrap recycling. Covers, steps and usable parts get donated or reused when possible. Only what can't be recycled is disposed of properly.
Is fall a good time to remove a hot tub in North Carolina?
Yes. October across central North Carolina usually brings highs in the low 70s°F and dry, comfortable days, which is easy weather for backyard work and for drying out a drained tub. Removing it now also means you're not paying to keep an unused tub heated through December nights in the low 30s°F, and you get the yard back before spring.
Junk A Haulics has served Sanford, Raleigh and the surrounding communities since 2017. See our hot tub removal service, and if the deck around it is past its prime, our deck removal service can take that too.
